  DAY 4  CHAVIN DE HUANTAR

Exploring Chavin de Huantar: In Quechua it means stone of power and they have an eminently sacred character. According to one interpretation, the chavín monolith brings together the three elements of the Chavín cosmogonic trilogy: eagle, serpent and feline (air, water and earth), that is, repressive deities that serve as sentinels and ward off evil.

The ceremonial center of the Chavín culture, Chavín de Huántar, is located in the Callejón de Conchucos on the eastern side of the Cordillera Blanca, at the confluence of the Mosna and Huachecsa rivers, tributaries of the Marañón river; in the current district of Chavín de Huántar, in the province of Huari (Áncash region). The nailed heads are sculptural monoliths (stones) that represent heads of supernatural beings. They were embedded in the walls of the Temple of Chavín de Huántar. Julio Cesar Tello found 42 heads, but they all disappeared in the alluvium of 1945 that covered the archaeological site.

According to the archaeologists, the god represented in the Lanzón was the main divinity of the chavines, whose cult was attended by a priestly caste that had access to the underground galleries of the Chavín Temple also called "Castillo" or "Templo de Chavín". It is located at 3180 m.s. It is an archaeological site located in the town of the same name in the Zona de los Conchucos. They are the oldest carved stone buildings in Peru, it was also one of the main religious-cultural centers of the Western Hemisphere. The most outstanding of these constructions is the temple, Archaeological Center Chavin de Huantar which is built on three platforms with a very advanced architecture. Its construction has different levels, communicated by stairs carved in granite in which is the Lanzón (impressive sculpture of 4.53 m high). The distance from Huaraz to the archaeological site of Chavin de Huantar is 106 Kilometers or 2 hours by car. Chavín de Huántar has the oldest stone carved buildings in Peru and there is no town or culture that exceeds it in architectural techniques, that is why UNESCO in 1985 declared it a World Heritage Site, overnight in Huaraz

To The Lost City of The Incas Machu Picchu: The trip by train to the town of Aguas Calientes (Machu Picchu) is one of the most spectacular trips that exist in South America. Undoubtedly the geography is captivating its flora and fauna of the eyebrow of the jungle emerges between the mountains.

Machu Picchu lay hidden from the world for such a long time because its location is fairly remote and inaccessible. Machu Picchu is located high up on a mountainside. The nearest town is Aguas Calientes which is located down in the valley beside the Vilcanota River. Aguas Calientes is only a couple of kilometres away from Machu Picchu as the crow flies but it takes a bus about 20 minutes to climb the narrow, steep zigzagging dirt track that connects the two. During the train journey you will have the chance to enjoy event seat: Plush seats with tables in the front, landscape: ample windows to admire the stunning countryside, audiotrack: relaxing background music, local drink: Irresistible selection of hot and cold drinks prepared using fresh local fruits and herbs, overnight in Aguas Calientes

DAY 7  MACHU PICCHU & WAYNA PICCHU

Guided Visit of Machu Picchu & Hike to WAYNA PICCHU: Rise to Bus Station for a 20’ journey to the famous Inca Citadel of Machu Picchu, bus drive, climbing 6 km. to the incredible site of WAYNA PICCHU also known as Wayna Picchu ( Quechua " Young Peak " ) The number of daily visitors allowed to enter WAYNA PICCHU is restricted to 200. The Incas built a trail up the side of the WAYNA PICCHU and built temples and terraces on its top. The peak of WAYNA PICCHU is about 2,720 meters (8,920 ft ) above sea level, or about 360 meters ( 1,180 ft ) higher than Machu Picchu. According to local guides, the top of the mountain was the residence for the high priest and thelocal virgins.

Machu Picchu Every morning before sunrise, the high priest with a small group would walk to Machu Picchu to signal the coming of the new day. The Temple of the Moon , one of the three major temples in the Machu Picchu area, is nestled on the side of the mountain and is situated at an elevation lower than Machu Picchu. Adjacent to the Temple of the Moon is the Great Cavern, another sacred temple with fine masonry. The other major local temples in Machu Picchu are the Temple of the Condor, Temple of Three Windows, Principal Temple,"Unfinished Temple", and the Temple of the Sun, also called the Torreon. Then we'll participate in a guided tour of the Citadel, visiting the Main Plaza, the Circular Tower, The Sacred Sun Dial the Royal Quarters, the Temple of the Three Windows and various burial grounds.

The Sun Gates of Machu Picchu boast a picture - perfect vantage point overlooking Peru'smost famous ruins. Tourists flock to this outcrop high in the Andes Mountains to enjoy the same view featured on virtually every postcard depicting the Machu Picchu citadel. Also known as Inti Punku, the Sun Gates consist of two stones perched at a narrow passage in the crevice of the mountain just above Machu Picchu. The sun shines brilliantly through this portal each day when it rises - hence the name.
