Today you will have the whole day to your leisure ( recommended)
Huaraz is the restless capital of this Andean adventure kingdom and its rooftops command exhaustive panoramas of the city's dominion: one of the most impressive mountain ranges in the world. Nearly wiped out by the earthquake of 1970, Huaraz isn’t going to win any Andean-village beauty contests anytime soon, but it does have personality – and personality goes a long way.
This is first and foremost a trekking metropolis. During high season the streets buzz with hundreds of backpackers and adventurers freshly returned from arduous hikes or planning their next expedition as they huddle in one of the town’s many fine watering holes. Dozens of outfits help plan trips, rent equipment and organize a list of adventure sports as long as your arm. An endless lineup of quality restaurants and hopping bars keep the belly full and the place lively till long after the tents have been put away to dry. Mountain adventures in the off-season can be equally rewarding, but the vibe is more subdued and some places go into hibernation once the rains set in.

Day 8 Bath of the Incas + Otuzco Necropolis + Travel to Celendin.
After breakfast we start the day visiting the famous Baths of the Inca, located in the district with the same name "Baños del Inca", a place to totally relax, private and group rooms. This place is particularly attractive for its thermal waters have medicinal properties for curing rheumatic diseases, nervous disorders and skin. The fluid emerges from the volcanic bedrock, whose temperature reaches 70 to 75 degrees Celsius. Numerous testimonies of people cured of rheumatism, bronchitis and other diseases attest to the healing power of these waters called thermionic or thermo scientifically.
the Ventanas de Otuzco stand out in the midst of the natural setting. The site is the necropolis of a pre-Inca civilization, older than the Caxamarca culture, most probably with Wari influences. Hundreds of galleries and individual niches, which resemble windows, were carved into the volcanic rock. The niches reach depths of up to 8 or 10 meters (26 to 33 feet) and have rectangular or quadrangular entrances which are 50-60 centimeters tall (20 to 24 inches).
According to tradition, the Incas emptied the inside of the rock and gave the niches a different purpose: they were converted into grain deposits (collca, in Quechua), which led to the entrances being re-directed against the wind to keep the contents fresh. Through some windows, one can enter the dark and mysterious galleries, whose inexorable end inspired man's imagination in the creation of the secret passages that link Cajamarca with Cusco. After visiting Otuzco we drive to the village of Celendin a small town in the Andes of northern Peru, at 2600 meters above sea level. It is about two and a half hours from Cajamarca by paved highway and about six and a half hours from Chachapoyas (mainly highway, but also some parts of road is still unpaved). The Blue Sky of Eden… “Yes! Yes, of Eden!” respond proud “Celendinos” when they are in contact with other cultures! And if you participate in the daily life of Celendín, you’re going to discover many traditions which date back to past generations. In some places it seems that time has actually stopped, of course not in many areas, but we can definitely guide you there!
Celendín is also known for its international achievements in their contribution in favor of the environment. Celendín is a small town, very quiet and known for great craftsmanship in “Toquilla” straw. You can take advantage of being in Celendín by buying a handmade hat made by local “mamitas,” since it would be useful in protecting you from the high altitude sun while continuing your journey. And if you happen to be in Celendín during the weekend, you will not regret walking through the most beautiful traditional markets that still exist from years and years before, where people can eat a delicious fried or braised guinea pig made with the fine touch of the local mamitas, enjoying a rich chicha observing the buying and selling of animals, along with hundreds and hundreds of very traditional local people who come from the nearby mountains. They still maintain their traditional brightly colored costumes and if you look at the detail of their smiles, some of their dentures are mostly decorated with pure gold in different figures to bring attention to themselves. With a smile to their suitors they start the traditional artisan fair!
After the sale, some stay to celebrate with “chicha de jora” which is a fermented corn liquor which sits for several days in large containers made of mud. After a bottle, everyone is ready to sing “carnivales,” music from the area, while their horses wait for their owners to be able to return to their homes behind the mountains. Upon arrival to the Town , hotel drop off where to spend the night.

Karijia is an archaeological site in the Utcubamba Valley, located 48 km northeast of the city of Chachapoyas, Peru in Luya Province, Amazonas Region, where eight Chachapoyan mummies were discovered on the cliffside, referred to by local residents as the “ancient wise men”.
The seven (originally eight) sarcophagi stand up to 2.5 meters tall, constructed of clay, sticks and grasses, with exaggerated jawlines. Their inaccessible location high above a river gorge has preserved them from destruction by looters. However, an earthquake toppled one of the original eight in 1928. They have been radiocarbon dated to the 15th century, coincident with the Inca conquest of the Chachapoya in the 1470s.
The sarcophagus are of a type particular to the Chachapoya called purunmachus. The construction is painted white and overlaid with details of the body and adornment in yellow ochre and two red pigments, such as the feathered tunics and male genitalia visible on the Carajía purunmachus. Often the solid clay head will boast a second, smaller head atop it. The purunmachus of Carajía are unique because of the human skulls that sit atop their heads, visible in the photograph..

You will visit the Huaca Rajada and Museum on site.
He was a very important Mochican warrior priest, which remains were founded in Huaca Rajada by Dr. Walter Alva in 1987.
In his tomb were discovered a great quantity of gold and silver objects, jewels, ceramics and carved wood of incredible value. This investigation had given archaeologists the chance to know many more aspects of the Mochican Culture.
In the main tomb was found a guard, skeleton of a young man with a golden shield and sectioned feet.
"El Señor de Sipán" (The Lord of Sipan), was founded in a sarcophagus made of wood (this is the first event founded in America), next to his head were the skeleton of two young women, and at his sides a skeleton of a dog and two lamas.
He was all covered with gold, silver and copper, chest protector with jewels and gold necklaces. His skull rested on a big golden plate.
Very close to this tomb, in 1989, some investigators of the Brüning Museum discovered the tombs of "El Sacerdote" (The Priest), and the tomb of "El Viejo Señor de Sipán" (The Old Lord of Sipan).
The tomb of the "Viejo Señor de Sipán" (Old Lord of Sipan) is chronologically older, and with difference among the others, was found a sarcophagus without company and wrapped in vegetal fiber. It had signs of royal importance, dressed with gold scepter, fine gold and silver jewels, chest protectors made with pearl shells, peculiar and unique pictures.
The archaeological investigation continue, and the last discovery was found in 2007, named the funeral chamber 14
All the original pieces were restored in Germany at the Mainz Museum (1988-1993) and are actually shown at the Museum of the Royal Tombs of Sipán in Lambayeque. Besides, all the replicas from the originals are used as demonstration in Huaca Rajada.

Upon arrival to Cusco city, a representative of your Agency will pick you up in the airport and bring you to your hotel, you will receive information of your tour activities in the city.
Rest of the morning leisure to acclimatize.
Around 13:30 hrs. our guide will pick you up in your hotel and bring you to the meeting point for the classic Cusco city tour & main attractions that involves : - The Cathedral - : Cusco Cathedral is a Baroque-style cathedral built on the foundations of the palace of the Inca Wirachocha in Cusco. Construction began in 1550, using many stones looted from the site of the hillside Sacsayhuaman fortress, and was completed a century later. It is considered one of the most splendid Spanish colonial churches in America. Within the cathedral's high walls are some of the best examples of the Cusqueña School of painting, including a Marcos Zapata painting of the Last Supper with a local specialty, cuy (guinea pig), as main course.
The cathedral's centerpieces are its massive, solid-silver altar, and the enormous 1659 Maria Angola bell, the largest in South America, which hangs in one of the towers. The cedar choir has carved rows of saints, popes, and bishops, all in stunning detail down to their delicately articulated hands. Five chapels flank each side of the nave; one dedicated to Nuestro Señor de los Temblores (Our Lord of the Earthquakes) contains a solid-gold crucifix that, legend has it, minimized damage to the chapel during a 1650 earthquake. There’s no-Christian imagery in Cusco Cathedral too: figures of pumas, the Inca representation of the earth, are carved on the enormous main doors Normal access to the cathedral is not via those doors but through the adjoining Iglesias del Triunfo, the city's first Christian church.
- The Koricancha Palace and Convent of Santo Domingo. Koricancha is a classic example of the fusion of Inca and Western cultures, and was one of the most important temples in the Tahuantinsuyu. Its finely polished stone walls were used as the foundations of the Convent of Santo Domingo. The temple walls were said to have been sheathed in gold and silver, it was dedicated to sun worship, as well as containing images of the gods of thunder and Wiracocha, deities brought from various regions and the mummified bodies of Inca rulers. The temple worship was reserved for the highest-ranking figures of the era, and was visited by representatives of communities all over the empire to render homage to the gods of the Tahuantinsuyu. The tour continues visiting 4 archeological complexes located around the city:
- Sacsayhuaman.- Sacsayhuaman is one of the most amazing Incas constructions for tourists. Its Quechua name means "satisfied falcon", it was the falcon that guarded the capital of the empire, since it was possible to overlook Cusco from the hill in where it was erected. If, as it is known, Cusco was designed with the shape of a lying puma, Sacsayhuaman would be its head, and the Coricancha would correspond to the feline's genitalia. It is said that the work was started by Pachacutec and continued by Tupac Yupanqui, even though some chroniclers state that it was Huayna Capac who gave it the final touch. Inca Garcilaso de la Vega says that Apu Huallpa Rimachi was the main architect, and that Inca Maricanhi, Acahuana Inca and Calla Cunchuy successively took control of the works.
Its construction took over seven decades and required the work of 20,000 men approximately, both for the foundations and hewn stone works, the transportation of materials, carving and stones setting. Hewn stones could have been located at Muina, Huacoto and Rumicolca, 20 kilometers away from Cusco, and at closer places such as Sallu,Rumi, Chita, Curovilca and Viracocha. Sacsayhuaman Some of its external walls exceed the 9 meters of height and 350 tons of weight.
Spectacular fortress built with huge carved rocks jointed with absolute accuracy, this astounding sample of the Incan military architecture is, undoubtedly, the greatest architectonic work of the Tahuantinsuyo. But, in addition, it proves the undeniable firmness of the great administrative capacity of the empire and its powerful logistic system capable of mobilizing and organizing such a work.
It is located 2 km away from the city of Cusco, that is, 10 minutes by car. As of the Spanish arrival its aspect has changed a lot, since this fortress was used as a hewn stone to build the colonial Cusco.
- Qenqo.- At 4 and 6 km, 5 minutes to the northeast of Cusco, by asphalted road, we can find the two archaeological sites of Qenqo: Qenqo Grande, which is located near the road that goes from Sacsayhuaman to Pisac; and Quenko Chico, which is located at 350 meters to the west from the latter, on the hillside. Both of them are worship places whose nature has not been deciphered yet, but in which we can highlight the Inca's predilection for stone and their thoroughness with regard to the carving process. These sites are limestone outcrops on which intricate mythical representations had been carved. It is believed that it was destined to the worship of the land. Its Quechua name means zigzag, probably due to the labyrinthine underground galleries, or due to the small channels carved on rocks with that shape.
- Puca-Pucara.- Located at 7 km to the northeast of the city, by the road leading to Pisac (30 minutes by car and 2 hours on foot), we find this inca site which Quechua name means "red fortress" due to the color of the rocks when the twilight reflects on them. (puca = red and pucara = fortress or defended place). It would deal about a military building made up by overlapping terraces, interior squares, aqueducts, watchtowers, high walls and staircases.
However, Its presence along the road may also indicate that it was a wayside inn, though its structure does not belong to the standard outlining that characterizes those buildings along the Inca trails. On this possibility, there is a version that says the Inca accommodated there his numerous delegations each time he decided to visit the Tambomachay baths. The site occupies another typical rocky place standing out in the Sacsayhuaman plain. Towards the western side, it shows a facade on a free area like a small square. On the opposite site, there is a medium size building, which main characteristic is its strategic location since it controls the whole surrounding territory.
- Tambomachay.- Tombo Machay, 7 km northeast of Cusco, is believed to have been built around 1500 AD.This site, sometimes referred to as Inca's Bath or El Baño del Inca, is thought to have been used for religious functions. Some theories suggest Tambo Machay was involved in an Inca water cult. Fountains or waterfalls fed by spring water were used to channel water to a ceremonial stone bath. The fountains are still functional at this well preserved site. Above the baths is an Inca wall. Tambo Machay is located in a sheltered area about 300m off the road to Pisac.Frequency:everyday in the afternoons.
